Report and selected photos from the Friends of Crosness Nature reserve bird walk on September 19th follow. There was a good turnout of 17 people, but little sign of the migrant species that had been hoped for. Nevertheless Hobbies, Peregrines, a Barn Owl and a Yellow Wagtail were all seen on a fine sunny day.

Hi bexley bird watchers, I live in Sidcup and for the past two months I am pretty sure that I have heard an owl hooting. Is this possible ? If so, how do I go about spotting it. I have to say that I don’t have experience of serious bird watching, although I do keep a record in our bird book.

Hi Anne,
Most probably Tawny Owls, the most commonly heard owl in Sidcup. You usually only see owls when they are roosting (in the day obviously). They are sometimes seen in Footscray Meadows. Jonathan
